![]() ![]() ![]() French are not immune to this, but you will learn better to avoid raiding. They have stronger villagers, which are more resistant to being raided, which is the bane of all new players (intermediate and better players will raid a new player to the point of frustrating them into quitting). This is a good way for newbies to learn, to understand the value of each and every unit and how to defeat what appears to be a superior force with micro. They have slightly stronger troops (that cost more and take more population slots), so there is less to have to control to compete with an equivalent army (equal resource costs + population slots). yes, they are a crutch in a way, but you'll figure that out, especially when you are losing and people constantly cry about how OP the French are (when the things that make them OP don't affect 99% of the games being played). The French are a very good civilization to start playing. by the time you get to the levels where people know how to exploit portugals massive weaknesses that make them underpowered:ġ) you will no longer be a noob and be able to play strong civs much more effectively, so u can just switch civ.Ģ) patch 1.04 will be out and hopefully ports will no longer be too weak to win at high levelsģ) you love ports too much and continue playing them despite their weaknessesĬheck out my port guide in my signature below if you want some tips with them. At low levels they fare pretty well and the extra TC allows you to defend raids easier and learn more about the economy of the game. You will not only win more, but learn more about the game. ![]() You will win a lot more with ottos, but once you play against people who can stop the otto rush you will find that u've played 50+ games and still don't really understand how the game is played, all you do is just abuse the ottos OP units, which is likely to be weakened in the next patch. Ottos are terrible if you want to get better at the game. At least with french you can move on to other civs a bit more easily. If you start off playing ottos you will most likely remain a noob for a very long time and be unable to switch civs. ![]()
